Read like a normal reader to confirm clarity, natural tone, and relevance to search intent. When I started content writing in Aug 2022, AI was not a thing. I mean, not a famous thing that everybody knew. The procedure for writing content till then was as follows:
- We used to get a keyword (Primary, Secondary keyword).
- Insert that keyword in the Google search bar, and we used to get many, many, so many websites.
- Now split the screen in half: on one screen, a blank Google Doc, and on the other, Google web pages.
- Now you are the writer; no AI to generate an outline and stuff.
- We used to write all those words ourselves.
Now the tasks are not complete yet, as we now check plagiarism (DupliChecker) and grammar score (Grammarly).
That was the most difficult part, as if you were a writer back then, you must know how it used to feel getting an update from the SEO team saying, “Your article is 5% plagiarised” (that 5% plagiarised sounded like we copied, as we copied!).
That feeling totally sucked! Especially when you are doing hard work, and all you get is an accusation that you copied!
How Content Writing Has Changed With AI
Now, when I see these AI tools, they have made writing a little better. No need to go through Google’s 100s of sites and read, filter, and manually understand what to keep and what to add to fill that content gap in your article, blog, or anywhere.
I am not saying that writing today is easy-peasy. In terms of research, it has gotten better. But when everything is AI, you have to go beyond tricks and technology to get an O.
So today, content writing can be done as:
- Use the keyword and add it to Google. Check the top 5 to 6 web pages on top.
- Next, go to any AI tool you like: Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, etc. (ChatGPT is my fav, though). Or combining these also works.
- Now use the art of writing when prompting those tools. It should be clear, crisp, and concise.
- Now, depending on your level of expertise, I am assuming you’ll at least have a heading, a good outline with an introduction, body, and conclusion, plus FAQs.
So, What Does a Content Writer Do Now?
AI gives words; a content person gives it expression and emotion.
Now comes the part of a Content Writer. I call it my 2.0 version! Here is what I do to make my AI-generated content a humanised version.
| Parameters to Check | What to do as a Pro Content Writer! |
|---|---|
| Credibility Checks | All the research-based data I got, I rechecked from credible sources. AI can be wrong, so you need to be cautious. |
| Fill in Emotions | AI will give you a house; make it a home! Or, in simple terms, fill in the emotions in that content piece. Understand what pain points your audience has. |
| Personal Touch | Now, this is also very important. People who will be reading your article are also humans. So it should feel like a human talking to a human, not a machine. |
| Don’t do Content Commodity | Now there are 100 more articles on the same topic you are writing. So your piece should have originality, authenticity, a YOU factor in it. Add something that is unique and different in your article to make it more valuable. |
| Power of adding an example | This is no joke. When we refer to something, we automatically start relating to it more. Do the same with your articles. Make sure you are adding the relevant examples. Real-life, dummy, anything! It should be there! |
| Give it layers | Don’t give content full of boring paragraphs. Give it bullet points, tables, interactive images, and data stats to make it look visually appealing. |
| Cut the Fluff | AI can write a lot. And sometimes, it writes a LOT! You ask for 800 words, and it gives you 1,200 words where the same thing has been explained in three different ways. So cut it. If a sentence is not adding anything, remove it. If a paragraph is just filling space, remove it. More words don’t automatically mean better content. |
| Read it like a Reader | This is my final check. After all the SEO, keywords, headings, research, grammar, and everything else, I read it once like a normal reader. Would I actually read this till the end? Does it answer what I searched for? Does it sound natural? If the answer is no, then back to editing! |
