Key Moments

Ad Recall ≠ Product Recall

High ad recall only measures memory of the advertisement, not the product, leading to forgotten brands.

Celebrity Ads Overshadow Brand

Emotion‑driven videos featuring famous actors or cricketers boost recall but often hide the product and logo.

Keep Product Front

Effective ads use humor briefly to hold attention, then immediately remind viewers why to purchase the product today.

Skip Vanity Metrics

Focusing solely on high ad recall wastes budget; marketers should prioritize messages that drive actual sales.

When people watch a live cricket match on a mobile phone and laugh loudly at a funny commercial, it creates very high Ad Recall. When a new ad shows a famous Bollywood actor fighting with a shopkeeper over a cold drink, viewers immediately forward the video link to their WhatsApp groups.

But the next morning, in a local grocery store, a shopper wants to buy that exact same cold drink. He stands in front of the fridge and realises he has completely forgotten the company name. He remembers the actor and the joke, but the bottle shape is totally missing from his head.

If the customer only remembers the joke, the business has simply wasted its money on free entertainment.

This common mistake happens because Ad Recall simply measures whether a person remembers watching a specific advertisement. High Ad Recall guarantees that people will talk about the video, but it does not mean they will remember the actual physical item.

How Strong Brand Codes Replace a Logo

Clothing shops spend crores of rupees on emotional videos just before Diwali. One business films a sad story about an old father meeting his son after many years. Women watching the video on their phones feel deeply emotional. They quickly share it in their family chat groups. The short film gets millions of views in two days.

Company owners feel very happy about their high ad recall. But when the same women visit the market to buy festive sarees, they go straight to their usual trusted shops. The sad video had strong ad recall, but the clothing company failed to show its own clothes properly. The shop logo appeared for only two seconds at the very end. Viewers remembered the crying father and completely ignored the shop name.

Companies make the same mistake when they hire famous cricketers. A new mobile network pays a well-known fast bowler to dance in its television commercial. Schoolchildren sing a loud song on their way home in the afternoon.

This creates very high ad recall across the city. But when a local man goes to the mobile repair shop to buy a new SIM card, he asks for Airtel or Jio. He refuses to buy the new network because the dancing video never explained why the call quality was actually good.

The business got strong ad recall by using a famous face. But a dancing cricketer does not make customers trust a new mobile network with their daily phone calls.

Smart shop owners know the real difference between making people laugh and selling a product. A simple newspaper image showing a clear price discount might seem very boring. It will definitely have much lower ad recall than a funny television joke.

Nobody will share a boring newspaper picture on social media. But that plain picture tells buyers exactly what the item does and how much it costs. A business loses a lot of money when managers focus only on high Ad Recall. They spend all their cash making short films instead of selling their actual physical items.

Creating a memorable video is very different from building a memorable business. People watch funny clips on their phones just to look at something while traveling on the local bus. A person laughing at a joke does not automatically hand over his money to a shopkeeper.

A company must make sure the product itself remains the most important thing in the video. Good marketing uses a short joke only to keep the buyer watching for a few seconds. The final message must quickly remind the buyer why they actually need to purchase the item today. If the customer only remembers the joke, the business has simply wasted its money on free entertainment.
